Former Marriott to be renovated, renamed Delta Racine
MOUNT PLEASANT — Things are progressing for the coming renovation of the Architect Hotel — the former Racine Marriott at 7111 Washington Ave. — since its purchase last November by North Carolina-based CHD Investments.
The hotel, originally opened in 1982, will be renamed the Delta Racine once renovations are complete. Delta by Marriott is the company’s newest brand following its purchase of the Canadian hotel chain.
New principal owner Pradeep Sharma was on site in February, working with contractors on the first steps of the extensive remodeling. The goal, he said, is to revamp the hotel into an even more attractive option for local travelers and community members.
“The main thing is to reposition it as a brand new asset,” said Sharma. “We want the hotel to be drawing customers from Milwaukee to Kenosha. It is the biggest hotel between Gurnee and Milwaukee. It’ll make Racine an even more attractive place to come and stay.”
Work is expected to be completed in the next year to 18 months.
The hotel also has had staffing changes, with Mark Johnson of West Allis starting recently as the new hotel manager. Johnson, 60, has worked in the hotel industry for 40 years and said he looks forward to putting his experience with hotel renovations to work. He spent nine years with the Best Western Hotel at the Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee where he was vice president and general manager. He also was vice president of operations with Marcus Hotels and Resorts in Milwaukee.
Sharma said he hopes to draw more of the community into the hotel with the Friday fish fry and Sunday brunch under a new executive chef. Marco Espinosa, 40, has been a chef for 22 years. He worked with Johnson at the Best Western as executive chef for three years and was asked to come help rebrand the restaurant. He especially looks forward to sharing his recipes for his favorite Italian foods and pastas.

The Marriott, 7111 Washington Ave., will become the Delta Racine with its sale to Raleigh, N.C.-based CHD Investments. Delta became a Marriott brand when Marriott recently bought the Canadian hotel chain.
Although a notch below the Marriott flag, Delta is still a “premium” full-service Marriott brand, said Brian Wismar, the Marriott’s general manager since six months before it became a Marriott in 1992. He said it is “perfect for this size of community.”

20 & Oakes Racine Restaurant Offers Extensive Craft Beer Menu to Beat Summer Heat
Just in time to beat the seasonal heat, 20 and Oakes Racine restaurant has expanded their extensive craft beer menu. Over half of the 60 beers featured are sourced from local breweries, giving guests an authentic taste of Wisconsin. In addition to offering the area’s most comprehensive menu, Beer Club members who sample all 60 brews during their visits to 20 and Oakes earn a free night’s stay at the adjoining Racine Marriott.
Our Latest Review From TripAdvisor
This is a flagship property...full service.
Rooms are very large and comfortable, clean and well appointed.
For us, the nice bonus was that they have an excellent chef who does many "non-standard" offerings. They have, of course, all the customary sandwiches and familiar entrees, but if you'd like to try something a slightly different, this is a good place.
It is not close to the Interstate. People who stay here are mostly in Racine for business.
Great Review From Happy Prom Mom
Our son, James, was one of the 50 or so high school kids that you hosted for the Case Prom dinner this weekend.
I wanted to compliment you and say Thank You for the exceptional service you gave the kids on their special night.
James, who normally will not touch salad, said he really like the cesear salad! He said the food was served in a very timely manner.
He also said the chicken parmesan was very good. They all had a great time at your restaurant.
I've heard stories of prom groups going to other restaurants where they were not treated very respectfully and served low quality food.
That definitely was not the case with 20 & Oakes!
Thanks again!! If you happen to have any photos of the event, I would like to promote it on our facebook page.

Another Great Trip Advisor Review for the Hotel and Restaurant
“Our Second Home!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013 My husband and I grew up in Racine and now live in Northern Wisconsin.l We often travel back to Racine for business and pleasure. We always stay at the Racine Marriott - it has become our home away from home! We keep going back because the rooms are very comfortable and the staff is always helpful. The Marriott has a great restaurant - very good food.and the best Reuben Sandwich I have ever had!!! They have a wonderful pool which we enjoy when our grandchildren are able to join us. The pool is always warm and nice for swimming. We usually stay on the concierge floor which has great coffee and a good breakfast. We would not think of staying anywhere else when we are in Racine!!!
New Menus Are In The Works!

New Comment from Trip Advisor
“Not your typical hotel restaurant”
Reviewed December 13, 2012 NEW Interesting menu for a Marriott. Hand cut chips and fries. Flat bread pizza with feta. Many unique fish dishes. I did opt for a burger and it was on a very interesting seasoned bun which complimented it well. Good cold local beers on tap too.
New Yelp Review
"My husband tried the Racine's Best Reuben. He is REALLY picky when it comes to ruebens. He tried them everywhere, but often finds them lackluster. But, with a name like 'Racine's Best' he had to try it! Thankfully, it didn't disappoint! We all thought it was the best thing we tried all evening. The corned beef was awesome, but it was the rye bread that really made the sandwich. Seriously, for days after we went he was telling everyone he knew to go try their rueben. It was that good."
